I just received an update from my very friendly Rocco Forte hotels sales rep today on what’s up with this top group of European hotels. Rocco Forte is one of my top “go to” companies in Europe for a few reasons: Location of hotels, historical buildings with contemporary interior design, top service & great restaurant options. Many of the hotels are quite busy with locals so you can be sure you’ll be a part of the city, instead of just a tourist. At least I like that.
Our agency is a top producer for Rocco Forte and as such have the connections to make your stay ‘above and beyond’ your expectations. And you’ll receive our normal complimentary perks, i.e. breakfasts, credits & upgrades as noted in each link below.
Rocco Forte also has a very favorable family plan too with a discounted 2nd room for small children. I’ve found this quite popular especially in both Florence & Rome.
London, Brown’s Hotel
The oldest hotel in town, the lobby is classic dark wood in a very central Mayfair location. Rooms are very contemporary and light, with new studio suites quite modern.
Edinburgh, The Balmoral
A bar with about 500 whiskies to choose from. And it’s above the train station and they’ll come and get your luggage. Perfect central location.
Berlin, Hotel de Rome
In former East Berlin, in a historic bank building. Rooftop restaurant with 360 views of the city. A more masculine approach than many others in the Rocco Forte Collection. A few newer suites quite modern though.
Florence, The Savoy
I’ve stayed here and the location is perfect if you want to walk out the door and be in the city. Just over 100 rooms, the smallest of all RF hotels. Very modern (but not over the top) in keeping with Florence’s always trendy position on top of an incredible 15th century base. And if you book in conjunction with Rome you’ll likely get a discount on both (minimum 5 nights last I heard).
Rome, Hotel de Russie
I was just here in October. The best location in Rome (really!) and they have a wonderful staff. This is one classy, fairly grand (but small) hotel with it’s own private garden and adjacent restaurant. It’s about a block from the Piazza del Popolo, the Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps), Gucci , Prada et al, and it’s just below the Pincio for a fabulous walk to the Borghese Gallery.
Sicily, Verdura Resort
Almost brand new resort with beach, golf (3 courses) and near the ruins of Agrigento. Siciliy is amazing (yes, I’ve been there twice) and I’d probably combine this with a stay on the eastern side of the island (Taormina) and maybe Palermo, too.
